Dry mop, wet mop or dust control mop: how to choose

Dust control (dry) mops

A dust control or dry mop has a flat head fitted to a frame and is used on dry, hard floors to collect dust and light dirt as you walk, rather than lifting it into the air as a broom can.

The Scrub Xpert range includes blue dust control mops with stainless steel or aluminium frames in 18 and 24 inch, white mops in 12, 16, 30 and 36 inch, a coloured mop with a stainless steel frame, woollen and micro fibre mops, and a dry mop with a metal folding frame.

Wet mops

A wet mop has an absorbent head, used with water or a floor cleaner, for floors that need wiping rather than dusting. The range includes plastic wet mops in 6 and 9 inch and an iron clip (Kent) wet mop in 6 inch.

Frame type

• Stainless steel frames suit heavy daily use in commercial spaces.
• Aluminium frames are lighter in the hand than steel.
• Folding frames pack flatter for storage and carrying.

Choosing a size

A wider head covers more floor in each pass, which suits corridors, halls and showrooms. A narrower head is easier to work around furniture and in small rooms. Many buyers stock one small and one large size of the same mop.

Head material

Micro fibre heads are commonly chosen for picking up fine dust. Cotton and woollen yarn heads are the traditional choice and remain popular for general use. Which one sells better depends on your customers, so it is worth starting with a small carton of each.
